nomadic research cells

Since 2021, we develop a research programme that allows itself to follow its own rhythm and path, indirectly feeding into the creations in progress. This research has two main aims.
Firstly, the so-called Intimate Cells, to revisit the working processes within the company: renewing our forms and ways of doing things, questioning certain creative habits that have become entrenched in our practice over the years, exploring new avenues.
Secondly, to invite other researchers, artists and experts from other fields of research to exchange practices and knowledge, and above all to share questions. With the intuition that every encounter is a translation: to ask the same question together is to hear, each one, a different question. By experts, we mean all the people who are engaged in a practice or in research and who have the concern or desire to share something of it.
In contrast to the divisive use of the term, which makes expertise something that distinguishes or separates, we want to give back to the word its dimension of sharing and horizontality. Expert comes from the Latin experiri: to try, to attempt, to put to the test, to experiment. An expert is someone who has tried an experiment and can tell others about it.
These nomadic cells are coordinated by dramaturg Arnaud Timmermans. As their name suggests, they are intended to take place in different places and contexts, depending on the meetings and partners involved. They are intended to be resolutely opened and non-linear, adapting to the different contexts in which they will take place, both in terms of their protocol and the public performances that may result.

childhood

Choreographic research workshops with children, around the ideas of de-hierarchizing the body, an imaginary dance including non-humans, and the hybridization of choreographic motifs. Initiated within Charleroi Danse in 2022, they are intended to be repeated.

bodies as materials, uncertain landscapes
Call on outside contributors to bring their respective practices (singing, poetry, visual art) into resonance with the issues central to the company’s artistic work, with the idea of creating a space for experimentation where the contributors’ imaginations, tools and interests would rub up against our body of ideas.
This cell can also be opened to a group of 10 external participants.
shared perspective

Collective feedback sessions between choreographers on the dramaturgical and formal challenges of past creations, to share experience, questions, doubts and new ideas over several days.

materialization

How can we combine our research with that of doctoral students in the natural, environmental and social sciences? How can questioning the choreographic translation of a life form open up new perspectives for scientific research?

lecture-workshop

A research workshop to combine practice and theory, with a discussion in the presence of a well-known author, accompanied by a public lecture open to all.
